WM How to connect to a MySql db with windev mobile

Hello to all

I have to develop a little application that must connect to a MySql database over a wireless lan.
This application must read/check is a scanned barcode is read in the database and show me
its description, stock qty and other stuff and if it doesn't exist, allow me to insert the record
as a new product.

My problems:
1) What do i have to use to connect the smartphone to a MySql database? Webservice? Php?

2) Do you have some example to follow as a starting point to create this little project?
